Custom Software

Software that fits the shape of your business, not the other way round.

Internal tools, operations platforms and back office systems for teams that have outgrown spreadsheets and off the shelf suites. Senior engineers only, one accountable team, and every line of it yours.

The situation

You already know where the hours go.

None of this is a crisis. It is the ordinary cost of running a growing company on tools that were never built for it.

The master file

One workbook holds the real numbers. Two people are allowed to touch it and both are busy.

The copy paste bridge

Two systems that should talk are connected by a person moving rows between tabs every morning.

The vendor ceiling

The suite does eighty percent. The last twenty is quoted as a custom module you never receive.

The invisible leak

Nobody can answer margin by product line this week without three exports and an afternoon.

The signature move

We do not digitise the spreadsheet. We model the business underneath it.

Watch the same operation move from a shared file that nobody trusts to a system that enforces its own rules.

How we build

Six stages, and you see working software in every one of them.

Stage 1DiscoveryWeek 1

We sit with the people doing the work, record the real process, and write down every rule that lives in someone's head.

Stage 2Domain modelWeek 1 to 2

Entities, relationships, states and permissions on one page you can read without an engineering degree.

Stage 3Vertical sliceWeek 2 to 3

One complete workflow shipped end to end, in your environment, on real data. Not a prototype.

Stage 4Build in sprintsWeek 3 onwards

Two week cycles, a live demo at the end of each, and a backlog you can reorder at any point.

Stage 5HardenPre launch

Load tests, penetration review, backup and restore rehearsal, and a runbook your team can follow.

Stage 6HandoverLaunch

Repository, infrastructure as code, documentation and two weeks of paired support. You can leave us at any time.

Under the hood

The standards we hold ourselves to, whether or not you ask.

Engineering
  • TypeScript end to end
  • Postgres as the source of truth
  • Migrations reviewed and reversible
  • No shared mutable state without a lock
Operations
  • Infrastructure as code
  • Structured logs and traces
  • Alerting tied to user impact
  • Restore rehearsed, not assumed
Security
  • Role based access from day one
  • Secrets in a managed vault
  • Dependency scanning on every merge
  • Audit trail on every write
Fit

When custom is the right call, and when it is not.

We turn work down for these reasons often enough that it is worth putting them in writing.

Build custom when
  • The process is a genuine advantage and no product models it.
  • Licence and per seat costs already exceed a build budget.
  • Three or more systems need one shared source of truth.
  • Compliance or data residency rules out the obvious vendor.
Do not build custom when
  • A mature product covers it and the gap is a preference, not a constraint.
  • The process changes every quarter and nobody owns it yet.
  • There is no internal owner to make decisions during the build.
  • The real problem is a policy your team has not agreed on.

What clients ask before they commit.

Who owns the code?+

You do, from the first commit. The repository sits in your organisation, the infrastructure runs in your cloud account, and the handover pack includes everything needed to continue without us.

How long does a first release take?+

A focused operations system reaches a usable first release in about six weeks. A complete platform runs three to six months, but you see a working vertical slice in week three either way.

What happens to our existing data?+

We migrate in stages with a reversible plan. The old system stays available in read only mode until the new one has run a full cycle without surprises.

Can our own developers work alongside you?+

Yes. We pair, review each other's pull requests, and write the codebase so that your team can take it over. Several clients run their product internally within a year.

What does support look like after launch?+

Two weeks of paired support are included. After that you can stay on a monthly retainer with response targets, or take the runbook and run it yourself.

Bring the process that costs you the most hours. We will model it on the first call.

No slide deck. One session, your real workflow, and a written view of what a system would replace.

Two ways to start

Book a call, or send the brief.

Tell us where you are stuck. We come back with a fixed price roadmap, timeline and exactly who on our team is on it, inside 24 hours. No decks, no pressure.
